Besides putting the kids to work cleaning, we've got some big plans for fun. We've got a visit to Washington state in a few weeks, and in the meantime we made a list of things to do here in town.
So far we've gone bowling, swimming, to the library, balloon rockets, built many marshmallow buildings, had a sleepover at Grandma's, painted boxes, painted on canvas, and done a lot of playing in general.
We had a good-bye play date at the park for some good friends in our ward that are moving next week. Rachel's buddy, Ally, and Annie's "boyfriend" Bryce, and their sister Clara are moving to Colorado.
Stacy has been a good friend and I'll be sad to see her go.
At home we really enjoyed how nice and cool May was and spent a lot of time outside.
This last week with 100+ temps we haven't been outside quite so much. Unless water is involved.
The girls had some fun with pipe cleaners from the dollar store.
With no school for Rachel we are getting to see cousins a little more often.
Much fun is to be had.
Our house is often turned into an art studio. This time Ryan actually got involved (he usually sits the art projects out). I think the red paint drew him in.
He is Heat Wave. He tells us this at least 20 times a day. His favorite show in the world right now is Rescue Bots (Transformers, for those not familiar with today's kids shows). Heat Wave is the fire truck bot on Rescue Bots and is red. So having red anything can catch his eye. Or asking if Heat Wave can help put something away works a lot better than asking Ryan to put something away. Ryan will put whatever I'm asking him to help with on his back and tell me it's a ladder, then proceed to walk with it on his back until he reaches the place where he can put it away.
Heat Wave also likes ice cream.
Speaking of Ryan, when we went bowling he LOVED it. Which is to say he LOVED the ball return. He would send his ball down the lane and before it was even halfway to the pins he would run to the ball return and look down the hole waiting for his ball to come back to him, ignoring completely the pins he hit or missed. This drove Rachel crazy a little because he was scoring better than she was for a while without even caring that he was doing well. I think she may have pulled ahead of him in the end, though.
We've been doing swimming lessons, as well, and the kids are becoming decent fish. Annie can swim somewhat, and is just working on being able to take a breath, then put her face back in the water to continue swimming. Ryan can kick through the water with his head underwater, but refuses to use his arms at all. Rachel is swimming well, but just needs to get her confidence up to realize that she can swim the length of the pool if she would just try. She is doing synchronized swimming this summer and so far it is just her and another girl from our ward on the team. She's excited about it. Megan loves going swimming and can't get enough of the water. She puts her head in the water and everything. But she does NOT like to try to back float.
More summer fun to come, I'm sure.
