April was a full month! We started off the month with General Conference and some birthday celebrations. Sammy became a little famous at school when he was upset about having to wear a mask at school because Jared got covid the very week their family had decided they could stop wearing a mask at school. Sammy scaled a tree and jumped the fence at school to escape and run home because he really didn't want to be at school with a mask. The next day they cut down the tree.
For his birthday I wanted to make a shirt highlighting his infamy, but didn't want to celebrate it too much. I thought this shirt was a decent balance. Those who know the story know what it's referring to, others just think it's a funny shirt.
Since Eloise and Sammy's birthdays are both in April, they had a combined b-day party at the bowling alley. So I made Eloise a shirt, too:Bumpers ensured that everyone had a good time bowling. Though the older kids did go without bumpers and did well enough.
I finally snagged a picture with my parents. I don't know when the last one I have is from. Too bad it's blurry and bad quality. Looks like I need to snag another sometime.
Easter weekend started early. On Friday we decorated eggs at Grandma's, as is our tradition.
The kids also had fun jumping on the trampoline with the sprinkler and playing on the slip 'n slide. Annie spent some time making cake pops for Easter. They turned out very cute and delicious.
Saturday there was a youth service project in the LDS cemetery. There was a great turn out, especially for the day before Easter. We cleaned up a lot of the graves at the cemetery, but there was still plenty more we could have done. That needs to be a service project we work on a lot more often.
Here's a before/after of one area that is pretty representative of how the whole clean up looked. You can barely see where the gravesites are with all the dead grass in the before picture.
Easter morning we enjoyed our regular tradition of watching a bible video of the resurrection around 6am, then went downstairs for the Easter egg hunt.
Kenzie and Peyton were able to join us for Easter dinner. With Marie's schedule they haven't been at Sunday dinner for a while, so it was a special treat having them join us.
There have been some nice sunsets lately. This one was particularly stunning.
It was like the sky was on fire.
Desert Willow had a fundraiser at Bahama Bucks so we tasted the deliciousness for our first time. We'll be visiting it again this summer, I'm sure.
The last week of April was a busy one. For YW we had camp kickoff. Annie and Rachel had a lot of fun and got hyped up for camp. On the leader side, it was a little stressful, but it all came together well enough.
That last week of April was also very full for PTA goings on. We had a book fair, and at the end of the week we had our biggest event of the year: the Community Fair. It included a talent show, book fair, silent auction, food trucks, fair games and face painting and balloon animals. Everyone loved it, but it was a ton of work.
I was so happy to be done with that. It felt great to have created such a successful event, but it also felt great to be done with it. From there on out the rest of the school year was smooth sailing.
