Spring Break Utah--Second Half

March 14, 2024

Wednesday we went to BYU for lunch, bowling and some exploration at the Eyring Science Center. Cari won at bowling. At the science center they had fun with the different displays and experiments. There was a dish on each end of the atrium and you could talk quietly into it and be heard all the way across the room at the other dish. They looked the air cannon, too.

Fun with cousins.
Ryan and Megan were popular with Anya and Rosie for giving them piggy back and horsie rides. Wednesday night we went to the Provo Rec Center with Mark’s clan to swim, and the kids had a blast. They had fun climbing the rock wall, jumping off the high dive, and especially as the night got later and the crowd thinned, going down the slides without having to wait. They had fun supervising the youngest cousins, too. Sometimes it’s just good to have an excuse to play on the little kids play set.

Friday Jacob and I managed to go do a session at the Orem temple. It was beautiful and I loved the cherry blossom motif throughout. For lunch we went out to Tucanos, the kids’ favorite place to eat every time we go to Provo.
Friday afternoon/evening we celebrated the March birthdays. The Nephi cousins came up in their new car that is almost our car’s twin. Bevy and Ryan turn 12 this month and Heidi and Annette both have birthdays, too. Pizza and cake was delicious.
When the festivities died down and we headed back to Cari and Sharon’s apartment, there was a blocked off street and lights flashing. Apparently there was a fire in a building nearby. There were at least 3 engines there to fight it. When we drove by the next morning, the building was still standing, but we could see the holes in the roof where we had seen the flames blowing out the night before.

Saturday we got some family photos with Grandpa Campbell. I also snagged several stealth photos throughout the week of the angels that are helping Grandpa Campbell out, Grandma Campbell most of all. I didn’t manage to get a picture of Cari, though. Sharon and Cari help every day, and Mark and Jesse are also called on often to help out, and Grace is a hired helper who has become family and helps nearly every day. We’re grateful for all they do since we can’t do much, being so far away.

March 19, 2024
Saturday we celebrated pi day (a couple of days late) with chicken pot pie for dinner and a MILLION dessert pies. So delicious.
We finally finished a super hard puzzle by the end of the night, but it took a lot of people pitching in. The cousins had so much fun together. Megan really didn’t want to come home at the end of the week. She and Miri always have so much fun together, plus, playing with the little kids is always a highlight.
All the kids in our family took turns being the star of the show for the little ones. Wes loved Megan (and the clock). Brayden and Rosie followed Ryan around. Anya made her rounds, and Rosie loved boating Megan and Annie around.
Rachel had Brayden and Rosie and her lap Saturday night and Brayden started taking her bracelets, so Rosie defended her: “Those aren’t yours! You better give those back to her or she’s going to be sad and I’m going to be mad!”
Brayden: “It’s ok, honey.” (Lisa calls Break honey a lot so Brayden has picked up the habit—it’s super cute.)
Rosie: “My name is NOT Honey, it’s Rosie!”
… (Brayden still has a few of Rachel’s bracelets)
Rosie: “Don’t make me count to ONE!”
It was so funny!!😂

Spring Break Utah-- First half

 March 10, 2024

Road tripping with the family! We were going to go the San Diego for spring break, but with Grandpa Campbell’s health not doing so well, we changed our plans and headed north instead. We’ve got a week with the fam in Provo now.

March 13, 2024
Utah trip Sunday. We’re staying in Cari and Sharon’s apartment while we’re here instead of the house like normal so we can give them some peace and quiet occasionally. And their bathroom is getting remodeled, so they’re down to one bathroom for now. Ryan had a little fun doing panoramas while we were waiting for everyone to get ready for church.
We went to church with Mark’s ward so the kids could go to 2nd hour with their cousins. Ryan thought about going to both grandma’s and Mark’s ward to pass the sacrament in both wards and help out since they don’t have many young men and always have lots of men passing the sacrament. But it was the day daylight savings time started (their first experience ever springing forward) and when I woke him up that morning he changed his mind and wanted to sleep a little longer, so skipped grandma’s ward.
Grandpa is in a hospital bed in the front room. Mornings are better for him cognitively, but pain comes and goes throughout the day. Rachel pulled out the guitar and played for a while. The cousins came over and Rosie was super excited to see Annie and jumped into her arms, then when Megan walked in she jumped out of her arms into Megan’s. She loves having cousins around she can boss around.

Monday we went to Thanksgiving Point. We did the dinosaur museum first. The picture of Rachel and Annie is in front of the Supersaurus. Ryan and Megan are in front of the stegosaurus.
After the dinosaur museum we went over to the Butterfly museum or whatever it’s called. Everyone liked holding the butterflies.
Lastly we went to the museum of natural curiosity and did the ropes course there. We couldn’t take pictures because we had to leave our phones in the lockers so they didn’t fall out of our pockets onto the people far below. It was scary, but the kids all did it.

Here are some additional highlights from Monday and Tuesday. Playing games with cousins, including chess between Ryan and Mark. We went out to Red Robin for dinner with Sharon. Afterwards they had to play on the escalator and got some exercise going the wrong way on the escalators. Next to the escalators is Ryan’s Diamonds, but he didn’t give us any.

End of 3rd Quarter

March 7, 2024

Ryan got the certificate of excellence on band for 3rd quarter at the 6th grade awards assembly today, along with his other standard awards: Pride and the Principal’s Award for straight As. Must be tough to be so awesome. He’s killing it in middle school!

March 10, 2024

Annie’s award ceremony was Friday and she kept up her good work 3rd quarter getting straight As again.
Megan also got her 3rd quarter grades and is keeping up the tradition. Sure is nice to have kids that are good students. Makes life easy for me.

March 10, 2024
Each quarter Cienega has a few drawings for big ticket items that “Top Cat” students (good grades and good citizenship) can enter. Rachel always thought it was just some mythical program that they said they did, but maybe didn’t really happen. But Friday the admin came into the band room while the pep band was getting ready to leave for a gig at an elementary school in the district, and brought her a NEW COMPUTER. It’s all hers! Pretty exciting!

Pre-FSY

 March 3, 2024

Yesterday we had our stake’s pre-FSY activity. I helped plan and implement it, Rachel and Annie came to enjoy it. They had fun for the most part, though Rachel would have liked to have skipped the table surfing. Annie got to attend her first stake dance and realized they’re not actually as bad as Rachel has made them out to be. They’re actually pretty fun when you get to hang out with friends. She might actually go to a few more.

Rachel: "Who thought table surfing was a good idea?!"
