Besides making pies, Thanksgiving break kicked off with a haircut. Ryan had been planning on a regular haircut this time, then shaving it all off for New Years, but he got excited about it and decided to shave it all off for Thanksgiving. We first tried the reverse mohawk. As much as he liked it (as you can tell by his face), he wanted it all off.
It took him a little getting used to, but everyone else was all about his fuzzy head.Thanksgiving morning was our annual turkey trot. Rachel (with a little persuasion) created the design for the t-shirts this year, based on an idea we saw online. She's really good with a drawing program she uses often on the ipad, so she whipped up the design, then Grandma and her friend cut them on a vinyl cutter and made them look awesome.
Ryan wanted this to be a real 5k run, so he bribed everyone with the promise of a box of bottlecaps for anyone who didn't use wheels at all. Jared and Sammy passed, but the rest of the kids were well motivated by candy and ran/walked the whole way.
They did a great job.
Everyone at the finish line:
Savannah and the girls made strawberry turkeys for finish line treats. They were delicious and cute.
Then it was back home to fatten everyone up after burning off the calories. Thanksgiving dinner at its finest.
The kids ate in the front room so we could enjoy civilized conversation at the kitchen table.
After dinner everyone crashed in front of the TV for the tradition of watching Donald Duck classic cartoons. I had no idea this was even a tradition. But we've done it a couple of times, so I guess it's a tradition now.
We kicked off the Christmas season a little later with the classic Muppet Christmas Carol.
Friday Rachel, Annie, Eliza, Grandma Knight and I headed out for some Black Friday shopping. I got some presents bought. The girls found some stuff they wanted. It was fun. Annie snapped a picture of Rachel doing what she's usually doing: drawing.
Later in the day Ryan got me to take him to Walgreens. He was still getting used to his new haircut, so was wearing his hat a lot. Add on his mask, and my sunglasses that he borrowed and he looked like he was ready to rob the place.
He made out like a bandit with all the bottle caps he owed to the 5k runners.
Friday and Saturday were also filled with decorating-both finishing up the interior decorations, and putting out a few outside decorations. We didn't hang lights this year (which Rachel does not appreciate), but did make our garage doors into presents and put up the projector lights.
Along with some pie and relaxation, Thanksgiving break was real nice, and productive, too.
