There were 2 new band directors this year at Cienega. Mr. Bailey and Mr. Koenig did a great job. Their show this year was called Tale of the Djinn. Early shows at Cienega:
In September they hosted middle school night, and Annie came along to have some fun at Cienega.
You can see Annie right behind Kinsey in this picture, looking away. She had a fun time in the stands with everyone. It was a super busy night and the stands were FULL.
At the end of September they had their first competition at Mt. View where they got 1st place in their division and swept all the captions.
A few weeks later they did the same at Walden Grove, this time in their actual performance tops.
At U of A Band day they won first place and 2 captions and, with it being a much bigger competition, we really started to get the idea that they were really good this year.

Rachel, Jacob and Eden have become good buddies this year, hanging out together all the time.
More pictures of the band at a home football game.
The last regular season competition was Sabino and they took first place and 2 or 3 captions. Their score put them in first place statewide in the AA division going in to the State championships.
Because they were first place going into State, they got the very last performance of the night. After warmups Mr. Bailey gave a great motivating speech telling them how proud he was of them for all their hard work and reassuring them that he knew they deserved to be where they were at that night, but that they still had to go out and do their best to take the top place. They did a great job performing, but had a few technical glitches.
The whole band got a picture afterwards. All season they had Jacob Dunaway's shako on the field at every performance to honor him since he passed away last New Year's Eve. It's in front of this picture, too.
Annie and my mom had come up with me to watch the performances.
All the bands lined up on the fields for the awards. It was super nerve wracking listening to the awards ceremony. They went from the very last place up to 4th place, then switched to announcing the 4A bands, and we had to wait for them to switch back to 2A bands. Cienega ended up getting 2nd place by 0.15 points. SO CLOSE. But it was the highest score Cienega has ever gotten, and they were so close to 1st place, so they felt pretty proud of themselves.
It was a great season and they're already looking forward to next year's. Rachel definitely has missed marching band, but was happy that pep band started so she can still hang out with her band buddies.
